Pediatric Orthotics: Expert Care for Growing Needs

Our committed team of orthotists at Cornell Orthotics & Prosthetics specializes in pediatric orthotics, offering cutting-edge and compassionate care to meet the distinctive needs of our youngest patients. What sets our orthotics apart is their skill in conducting extensive and complete assessments, providing a tailored approach to each child’s orthotic requirements.

1. Meeting with Your Orthotist

As parents of a child in need of pediatric orthotics, your initial meeting with the orthotist marks the beginning of a personalized journey. Together, you'll discuss your child's daily activities, aspirations, and the orthotist will use their clinical expertise to create the ideal orthotic solution tailored to your child's unique needs.

3. Rehabilitation Path through Physical Therapy

Your child's physician, orthotist, and/or physical therapist will work together to support and guide them in adapting to their pediatric orthotics within their daily routines. As your child becomes proficient in basic skills, they will progress to more advanced activities such as stair climbing and engaging in sports or hobbies under the collaborative guidance of their healthcare team.

2. Initial Orthotic Experience

Once we meet with you and your child, the fitting for their custom-made orthotics takes place. Our orthotist will meticulously measure and tailor the orthotics to your child's specifications. Additionally, you'll receive guidance on putting on, caring for, and maintaining the orthotics to ensure their optimal function and comfort.

4. Sustaining Progress with Follow-Up Care

Continued care is crucial as your child's needs evolve with their growth. Our orthotist will make ongoing adjustments to their orthotics, ensuring it stays aligned with their changing requirements. Regular follow-up appointments, at least every six months, are essential to address any emerging issues, especially as your child's body undergo size fluctuations during their development.
